This course offers a comparative look at the world travel market, stressing the specific factors of mass tourism development in the world and the competitiveness of Russia as a destination at the world tourism market. The factors and laws that determine the formation of the world tourism industry are studied. At the same time there is a comparison of the specific features of tourism development in the Soviet Union and in contemporary Russia (theories, frameworks and approaches).
There is an examination of the theoretical and methodological approaches to the tourism's role in economic development of a country, tourism development at the time of an economic slowdown, stressing the specific features ecological and socio-cultural impacts of tourism. Some theoretical aspects of tourism management and tourism planning are depicted. Tourism and hospitality business in Russia and its peculiarities are also studied
